6 OSCILLATORS WITH MASSIVE SOUND CAPABILITY
Behringer Spice is a monosynth on paper, but it has more going on than meets the eye (or ear). It begins with its all-analog design, which consists of a bunch of cascading oscillators. With each oscillator acting as a separate channel, each VCOs provide three separately configurable waveform possibilities.
Two seismic sub-harmonic oscillators can be tuned for their individual Frequency and Level values within each oscillator “lane.” Everything next passes through the burning harmonic-rich filter, a highly resonant 24dB/octave VCF. Spice’s sonic contouring turns a simple monophonic profile into a multidimensional prism of six-layered, octave-transcending sounds by utilizing its VCA, VCF envelope, and per-VCO pulse-width modulation capabilities.
POLYRHYTHMIC SEQUENCER WITH LOT OF POWER
One of its dual 4-step analog sequencers can be arbitrarily assigned primary and sub-harmonic oscillators to each VCO channel. This couplet of sequencers is clocked by four polyrhythm generators, which are powered by a variety of sophisticated mathematical operations.
In the meantime, your palette becomes a machine of intricate sequences and thunderous rhythms thanks to eight division assignments, configurable quantization, sequence-octave options, and adaptable tempo-sync tools.
PLUG & PLAY FROM MODULAR TO MIDI
With the help of its analog oscillators and their underground supplements, Behringer has created a plethora of polyrhythmic possibilities throughout Spice’s 57 settings, but these many musical possibilities are just the start. From creative self-patching to infinite multi-instrumental capabilities, such as envelop generation, sequencing behavior, per-rhythm controls, PWM, clocking, and more, the synth’s 32 patch points provide a matrix of interoperable potential across the top.
However, Spice’s musicality doesn’t end there because the semi-modular synth has a wealth of MIDI connectivity. With the help of two 5-pin DIN ports for MIDI in, out, and via connections and a 2-way USB-MIDI port on the back, Spice’s semi-modular design can accommodate a 16-channel MIDI magic show that combines hardware and software tools.
