When Akai Professional released the MPC60 in 1988, it blazed the route for a new approach to be hands-on with your sound, and the indelible groove formed by finger drumming entrenched a particular, instantly recognizable style of beat building and sampling.
The APC line of instruments combined this approach with Ableton Live‘s hybrid studio/live-performance architecture to maximize the software suite’s creative potential, and the APC64 is the current musician’s answer to Ableton Live-driven performance. An 8-by-8, RGB-backlit, 64-pad matrix supports both velocity sensitivity and polyphonic aftertouch, while a ring of multi-mode buttons provides extensive, all-encompassing navigation and performance tools.

To make track management easier, the RGB-backlit performance pads can mirror Clip and Track views in your workflow. Meanwhile, a bright display panel and rotary encoder provide real-time visual feedback while also supporting navigation for onboard and DAW-based parameters. Scene launch buttons, panning controls, and a slew of other features ensure that you may go as deep as you need with your DAW in any situation.

A slew of bundled software includes soft synths, vintage-style effects, emulations of iconic keyboards, vocal processing, and drum samples from CR2 Records, Air Instruments, and Sonivox, implying that the APC64 instantly expands creative possibilities in both the physical and virtual realms.
Furthermore, the APC64’s powerful performance suite can be deployed across drum machines, Eurorack modules, keyboards, synths, and any compatible external instruments via eight onboard Gate/CV jacks and a 1-in/2-out TRS-MIDI mini-jack interface for simultaneous operation or completely DAW-less composition. That’s right: the APC64’s continuously operable touch strips, polyphonic aftertouch, and velocity-sensitive articulation go much beyond the boundaries of a single aural terrain.
